3RD ETHIOPIAN MATHEMATICS OLYMPIADS
Venue: Nejashi Ethio-Turkish Int`l Schools African Union Branch and Alemgena Branch*

Time: 09:00 a.m.
AWARD CEREMONY: The award ceremony shall be on SAME DAY, April 27, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Nejashi Ethio-Turkish Int’l Schools AU Branch.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
OF THE 3rdETHIOPIAN MATHEMATICS OLYMPIADS (EMATO©)
ARTICLE 1: SUBJECT:
Ethiopian Mathematics Olympiads is held among the 6th, 7th and 8th grades students in Addis Ababa. This competition is organized by NEJASHI ETHIO-TURKISH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS.
ARTICLE 2: AIM
a) To increase the interest in mathematics among the students, make them see their mathematics level and improve the self-confidence of the students.
b) To give the consciousness of representing their schools, provide the students with the desire for the voluntary studies and target significant studies for their country in the future.
ARTICLE 3: SPECIFICATION OF THE APPLICANTS
Students who are from grades 6th, 7thand 8th may participate in this Mathematics Olympiads.
ARTICLE 4: APPLICATION PROCEDURE
A) All application forms shall be delivered to Nejashi Ethio-Turkish Int’l Schools African Union or Alemgena Branches by the school administrators or an authorized person.
B) Students may apply individually but they are supposed to have a grade average of 85 out of 100 in the previous year’s report card. And, Individual applicants should bring a supporting document from their schools stating that they are a student of relative grade/class currently.
ARTICLE 5: NUMBER OF APPLICANTS
Each school can send 3 (three) students from each grade (i.e. 3 from grade 6, 3 from grade 7, and 3 from grade 8). Students shall be chosen by the school administrators and teachers.
ARTICLE 6: LIMITATIONS AN DEADLINE OF APPLICATION
A) Since there will be a limited number of applicants for the Olympiads, applications may be finalized before the due date (see 6c). Therefore, it is recommended to apply earlier not to experience a rejection of the application.
B) Students from Nejashi Ethio-Turkish International Schools shall not participate in this competition.
C) The deadline for the applications is Wednesday, April 24, 2013 (till 5 p.m.).
ARTICLE 7: IDENTIFICATION OF APPLICANTS
A) The participating schools shall provide and ID card for the chosen students and a photo of each in the application letter signed and stamped. (Application form is attached with the invitation letters). After finishing the application procedures, the participating schools shall be given an entrance card and detailed information about the exam.
B) Students shall be asked to show their ID cards before the exam starts.
ARTICLE 8: OLYMPIAD CENTERS
The exam shall be started at the same time in both AU and Alemgena Branches of our schools. Detailed information about the place and time of the exams for each grade (6, 7 and 8) shall be given during the application.
ARTICLE 9: CONTENT, QUESTIONS AND DURATION OF THE EXAM
A) All the participants shall take the exam individually in the 3rd EMATO Mathematics Olympiads, on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 9 a.m.
B) In the exam, there will be questions from mathematics and aptitude skills only. The questions shall be selected from the topics relative to the grade level (i.e. from the current year’s and past years’ topics).
The exam shall be in multiple choice format having 4 choices.
C) The number of questions for each grade shall be 35, and the time allowed shall be 120 minutes.
D) The questions of the exam shall be in English Language.
ARTICLE 10: EVALUATION OF THE EXAM
A) The test shall be out of 100 points. The questions shall have different points which can be seen on the table below.
B) To discourage the test taker to make a guess (though the answer is not known or found) while answering,3 wrong answers will eliminate 1 true answer. So, students are advised NOT to answer the questions that they cannot solve.

ARTICLE 11: BEFORE & DURING THE EXAM
A) Students shall bring their entrance cards given by Nejashi Ethio-Turkish International Schools with them. Students shall also bring their pencils and erasers.
B) Students are not allowed to use rulers, calculators, draft papers or any other relevant materials which can be used in Mathematics. Mobile phones or any other communication devices are NOT allowed either.
C) If a student is late for the first 30 minutes, he/she shall be accepted to the exam but shall not be given any extra time. That is, he/she will finish at the same time with the others. And, because of the above case, a student shall not be allowed to leave the exam in the first 30 minutes.
ARTICLE 12: AFTER THE EXAM
At the end of the exam, the question booklets shall be given to the students. The questions will be available on our website (www.ethioturkish.com) to be downloaded.
ARTICLE 13: THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS
A) The results of the Olympiads shall be announced on the SAME DAY, at 1:30 p.m. at AU Branch of Nejashi Ethio- Turkish Int’l Schools.
B) Each student shall take his/her exam report at the end of the award ceremony.
C) In the report, a student can see the answer Key, his True/False answers, points, and rank.
ARTICLE 14: RANKING
A) Ranking shall be done according the above mentioned pointing system.
B) Ranking shall be separate for each grade. In case of getting the same score, the younger one shall be in a higher rank.

*In case of having two winners (1st, 2nd or 3rd) from the same school, the relative school shall be given one prize ONLY.
*In case of a successful individual applicant, student shall be given the prizes, but no prize shall be given to the school from where the student comes.
ARTICLE 16: AWARD CEREMONY
1) The award ceremony shall be on (the same day) Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at AU Branch of Nejashi Ethio - Turkish Int’l Schools.
2) For the participating students (ONLY), Nejashi Ethio- Turkish Int’l Schools shall serve snack/lunch/refreshment while they are waiting for the award ceremony.
3) The parents and accompanying teachers together with the participating students shall be invited for a cultural show (comprised of dances and songs) presented by the students of Nejashi Ethio-Turkish International Schools before the award ceremony.
