World Peace Orchestra

A Flag for Youthful Harmony

A young Ethiopian artist, Walid Abdulqadir from Mekelle, took part at Inaugural Youth Concert at the Lincoln Center held on September 10, 2013 in New York, US, to demonstrate the unifying power of music.

Walid Abdulqadir, an 8th grader in Nejashi Ethio-Turkish International Schools Mekelle Branch, represented Ethiopia in World Peace Orchestra by playing "kirar”. He said that, his teachers encouraged him to take part after they came across with the official call on the website while surfing and helped him to go and stay there in US for a month.

He was one of the world children formed World Peace Orchestra which brought 134 students together from more than 50 countries across the globe to perform in an inaugural classical music concert. During the concert, the musicians lead by guest Lithuanian conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius and joined by world renowned violinist Alexander Markov. Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey was also in attendance to introduce the orchestra.

We very well know the importance of peace education and encourage our student to be a part of it in any way they can.
